Hi all, after trying to setup the WJC, I have realized I cannot continue simming for the future. I just do not have the consistency or the resolve to get through the duties of a simmer. I'm sorry guys but even just simming for barely a month and I already hate it lol Theres just too much of a time commitment, and I was maybe a little naive thinking it wouldn't be this bad, but it is. I can't even finish setting up the WJC. Props to Slovan Stags GM for simming as long as he did, and to all the other simmers throughout the years in other leagues.
So what does this mean going forward for PS5HL? I don't know, unless Miiko or someone else can sim, I don't know what the future will hold. I am also not going to run the WJC this season. Immediately for this season, what I can do is either:
A) Quick sim to trade deadline, I'll post stats, and we have a couple days for everyone to make trades, then quick sim to finish the regular season. Then we will have playoffs like we normally do.
B) Quick sim directly until end of regular season, and then playoffs like we normally do.

Running leagues are tough, it requires a ton of unpaid thankless hours. I felt the burden and I didn't even sim. Appreciate your efforts here.
Just a thought - what if this league was ran at a much slower pace? No sims posted, just monthly standing updates. Tough part would be the need to post all the stats etc (would be easiest if multiple ppl had access to the game file, but doesn't sound like this is possible).
just trying to brainstorm some ideas. Hope something can come up

I think simming individual games during the regular season is the big time/effort sink. I think that what ATL suggests is a good alternative, so long as the simmer is good with it. I know that not having to post goal scorers and assists would be alright with me . .

That’s why there was a suggestion to have a pool tip out at the end of a simming season or era to say thanks. It’s a fuckload of work and a lot of dedication.

I'd be down for monthly sims and standing/stats updates. Most of the time I just quickly peek at the box scores anyway.

the workload is always the issue. part of it is a lack of interest because of how long weve been stale. i think if we rebooted and took real nhl rosters it would trigger lots of trades and activity which in turn gets everyone more invested including the simmer. if a guy is spending all that effort for little activity he loses drive i think. which is totally understandable. need more activity and less workload for simmer and i think we would be back in business.
reboot post just box scores and monthly stats
would you be down for that luo? we cant let it die! lol

I have been trying to think of “easier” ways to sim but just a few thoughts on the future if we do continue somehow:
-I dont mind the actual simming, its posting the scores and posting the screenshots of the boxscores that kills me. Entire process takes about 1.5-2hours every sim. And thats me not typing out boxscores. -Also after trying to set up the WJC, I cannot do the updating in-game rosters and overalls. If I am to sim, I need someone else to update rosters and send me the roster file before the season starts
-Another point is interest, it does seem interest has slowed down. Part of that is the long break we had, but that also kills the simmers motivation to keep going, and then it just ends up in a feedback loop -How many active members do we still have? Can we fill up a league? How many would be interested if we did quicker sims?
-A “quicker” sim method I have thought about is just streaming all my sims on Twitch, and then someone else can either take screenshots of the boxscores and post them on Discord (cant post on site since there is a limited data storage) -But we need more buy in from members to help out
-Burn out always happens with the simmer because they have to sim and usually the site admin duties fall on them as well. If we are to continue we really need more active staff members to help run the site

What if we moved to static ratings? I know a lot of people were against this in the past, but I'd consider going in the direction of NHL 90.
Start at some year, every player is rated based of their career totals. Players come in as 89 or whatever rating their given. Players retire when they retire in RL. Would take away all the work of changing overalls each off season
In terms of boxscores, I'd suggest moving away from them entirely. I don't even know if posting scores would matter, just standing updates

I like the idea of rebooting to ignite excitement and activity, then post scores only to make simming quicker and easier. Would you be down to do that Luo?

Would depend on how much interest we have from GMs and also if someone can do the offseason roster upgrades to send me the roster file

also if someone can do the offseason roster upgrades to send me the roster file I'd have no issue doing this, I only have PS4 though and don't think EA allows you to share between a PS5.
