With Free Agency now open, we’ll take a look at some players who could be quite popular with teams looking to make a splash. Silly season is upon us. Let’s see who could wake up with a Brinks Truck at their door as teams look to push themselves over the top
LD Sam Girard OFD 91 (28)
Rumors circle of the Girard camp passing on an 11M$ AAV ext that would’ve paid him well into the future. Hearing that the Girard camp is betting on themselves, and the fact a D of his caliber hasn’t hit the open market in recent memory. Will someone open their checkbook and make Girard the highest paid Dman? Sam and Co are hoping so
RW Mark Stone SNP 88 (34)
After things just didn’t quite work out in Israel Stone will find himself the most sought after Offensive player on the market. Looking for a final run at a Cup, money might not be on the forefront of Stones mind as much as fit and competitiveness. That said, he’s expected to sign North of 9M
RW Brendan Gallagher TWF 87 (34)
One of the more consistent physical forwards to hit the market, Gallagher’s time in Riga appears at an end. Brendan is hoping to snag a deal with a contender and provide some toughness to a contender. Could be more sought after than Stone
C David Gustafsson TWF 86 (26)
A contract dispute left Gustafsson on the outside of the NHL for the 25-26’ season. Posting strong numbers in the SHL, Gus will be looking for 2/3 C role and to make Israel regret letting him walk
LD Kale Clague TWD 86 (28)
Coming off a career year Clague put up solid numbers on a very underwhelming VIC team. Although counted on as their number 1# D, Clague probably fits better as 3-4 guy. But we could easily see Kale get paid upwards of 6M on a team looking to cement their D
RD John Carlson OFD 86 (36)
Carlson will be looking for 1 last run at a Cup. Vet leadership, consistent numbers, and PP poise could make the Carlson the 2nd most sought after FA D. The term will be short, but AAV could be large
LD Areseni Koromyslov TWD 74 (22) ??
Late bloomer, and WJC standout, Koromyslov is an interesting case. Sure to be sought after, some teams could be a little hesitant to fork out the cash to a somewhat unknown commodity. Scouts seem to be high on him, with some believing him capable of making an impact NOW. Will this be Leo Loof 2.0? His bank account hopes so, scouts and GMs hope for a better outcome
