S6 Training Camp Surprises (Euro/2nd RD Lotto)
It’s that time again! Here we will cover our annual Training Camp surprises. Summer is officially over and camps are in full swing. Here’s a look at a couple guys that have been pleasant surprises, and could make impacts on their respective clubs
Seena Peeters is a player that seemed destined to slip through the cracks during a transition year for a team recovering from internal turmoil. Peeters had a strong season in the NLA playing for ZSC Lions. He led his team in points, and was a positive factor in his teams playoff run despite an early exit. Although it happened late in the summer, new GM Scalz re-signed Peeters to a 2 year deal. He’s arrived at camp and could actually look poised to steal a top 6 spot from someone. Gotta think someone like Garland could be popping up in rumors in the season’s early going.
Petrovsky has been a bit forgotten in the Eindhoven system. But he has quietly been rounding out his game in the European leagues (SHL/Liiga) for the past 2 seasons. Finally getting a chance to break into the NHL, Petrovsky is one of my picks to have a solid rookie season. He will get a chance in the top 9 on a club that looks to remain competitive while they retool
and have won the Euro Lotto!

In what is already being talked about as the deepest draft in recent memory, it seems like there could be a couple steals that haven’t gotten talked about as much as some of the sexier names out there (Poss, Rausa, Sistonen, Aucoin).
“Vilmer Drottz (47th OA by ) is guy who I think could probably be stepping onto a NHL team TODAY if Stockholm didn’t have the depth they do. He’s that good” That’s what was told to me by a scout after Draft weekend. Drottz possesses a NHL shot now, high IQ in the offensive zone, and some deceptive speed. He will be tasked with working on his Defense, and bulking up a little. Stockholm can take their time with him. But you will be hearing his name in the future. At this point, we shouldn’t even be surprised. Early indications are the 2027 Draft will go down as one the strongest.
This next one is my hot take of the Pre-Season. Ozogany could end up being the 2nd best player taken in 2027. One scout confessed (on condition of anonymity) that he was very disappointed his team didn’t take Ozogany in the top 15. He even threw out a crazier comparison. M Hossa. Ozogany flew under the radar a bit and was taken by Houston as the 1st pick of the 2nd RD (28th OA). Having not played the entirety of the WJC this last winter, and sitting out a good portion of his remaining season back in Slovakia (HK Nitra) with an undisclosed injury, this seems to be the main factor why he didn’t make the 1st RD. The skill is there. Health is a concern. However the same scout was quick to point out he didn’t necessarily think the offense would be there like a Hossa, but that they were of a similar mold, and play the game in a similar fashion. Time will tell if that M stands for Marian or Marcel
and have won the 2nd RD lotto!
