With the Trade Deadline fast approaching, we will do a quick hit about a few players who could wearing a different sweater on Monday. Followed by teams that should be in the market.
Forsberg - Filip could help just about any team looking to do damage in the playoffs. In Forsberg you know what you’re getting 30+ Gs and 60 PTs. Hearing the asking price is a 1st. At a potentially 2M expiring cap hit, that seems more than reasonable
Andersson - The Titan continue to look for a dance partner. Although Andersson may have lost a step, he is still one of the premier RDs in the league. I imagine this will take some retention to get it across the finish line, but surely someone will come calling
LW/RW Filip Forsberg SNP (33) 87 8.0M UFA 2028 [PRG retains 4.0M]
RD Rasmus Andersson TWD (30) 87 9M UFA 2031
Kuzmenko - Having been in the AHL all season, not sure the demand is high for Kuzmenko. But for teams that lose out on bigger names he could provide value and secondary scoring at a decent CAP hit if ATL decides to utilize
LW Andrei Kuzmenko PLY (31) 84 4M UFA 2028
Likhachev - Having been unable to replicate his Sophomore season scoring, Likhachev has been frustrating at times to watch. California finds themselves on the outside looking in, and with Likhachev due a 7.15M qualifying offer , we’ll it doesn’t take a genius to know they’ve got to be looking for another suitor to get him going
Bertuzzi - Bert is another player on an expiring contract who could be a huge addition to any playoff team
LW/RW Tyler Bertuzzi PWF (32) 87 8.5M UFA 2028
LW Iaroslav Likhachev SNP (25) 86 6.5M RFA 2028
Hrenak - There’s been not so quiet rumors about a breakup for a while now. There appears to be a sticking point in contract negotiations, and we’ve been told negotiations have ceased for the time being. Pair with the the recent trade bringing in Saros, and the writing appears to be on the wall. Only 4 seasons removed from a Calder Trophy, perhaps Hrenak feels it is system decisions leading to his subpar sv%

The wheels fell off somewhere around the Christmas Break, and Houston has struggled to gain consistency since.
Faber - Faber is a solid defenseman, but it’s very hard to look past his current deal and find any value.
Dorofeyev - Dorofeyev was acquired this past summer and was looking to find his groove again in a top 6 role. That hasn’t happened. Houston appears set to be giving those mins to the younger generation coming in. There’s value to be had here for the right team looking to give him a chance
LW/RW Pavel Dorofeyev SNP (26) 85 5M RFA 2028 Tape to Tape
RD Brock Faber TWD (25) 85 9.35M RFA 2029
Gajan - After back to back All Star seasons, Gajan has had a down year. The Scorpions have struggle to find any consistency after some roster turnover, and the blame appears to be at Gajan’s feet after the recent comments coming from the coach. The upcoming Free Agent is due a substantial raise on the 1M he made this year. Will be interesting to see if they find a suitor

Stankoven??? - As strange as it sounds, fan favorite Stankoven may indeed be available. There have been rumblings about upcoming negotiations. Take with a grain of salt, because it’s hard to believe these two can’t get a deal done. But where there’s smoke?
C/RW Logan Stankoven PLY 85 (24) 1.000M RFA 2028 - Elite Edges, Tape to Tape, Make it Snappy
Jones - Signed in the offseason to 6M. There was hope Jones would perhaps fight for a top 6 position. However, coaching decisions have made this impossible as he has been a healthy scratch the whole season. You can’t help but feel for Max and gotta assume they will try to find a better home for him. Will Free Agents remember this before picking New York as a destination? At least until the coach being dubbed “the new Sutter” gets shown the door it’s entirely possible
LW Max Jones PWF (29) 86 6M UFA 2028
Kaliyev - Another surprise addition to the list. Sources tell me negotiations have not gone well, and the sides remain pretty far apart on an ext. Kaliyev is due a hefty raise on the 4.75M he’s making now. GM matty has some difficult choices ahead navigating the rumored flat cap next season. Would Kayliev agree to a 1 year bridge deal to get a bigger pay day when the cap goes up? Does Niagara even want to test walking Kaliyev right up to UFA after difficult negotiations? Someone will pay the man 10M+, the question is will it be Niagara?
RW Arthur Kaliyev SNP 91 (26) - 4.75M UFA 2028 - Shnipe, Born Leader, Tape To Tape
McDavid??? - Maybe too early for the McDavid rumors to start, but the entire hockey will be keeping an eye on it if Sparta misses the playoffs.
C Connor McDavid PLY 94 (30) 14.5M UFA 2032 NMC
Dumba - Stockholm’s season has not gone as planned, but remain only 4 points out of a playoff spot. Dumba is name that has surfaced as potential name on the move from the Smoke Eaters, but with a full NTC he will have the ultimate decision on where he ends up. Skilled RD on an expiring contract should be able to find a new team before Sunday afternoon
RD Matt Dumba TWD 90 (33) 8M UFA 2028 NTC
Huberdeau - Huberdeau makes his annual appearance on the rumor mill. Right in the thick of the playoff hunt, TBT will be wanting someone skilled in return. Does it finally happen this year?
LW Jonathan Huberdeau PLY 89 (34) 11.5M UFA 2028 NMC
BUYERS
An aging club that refuses to quit. Kingston could be looking to add. But not sure they have the stomach to give up their top prospects Israilov and Mishin. That will surely be the ask on any large addition
Prague made their deals leading up to the deadline and it appears to be working out. They look poised to make the playoffs with their new additions but might still be looking to tinker.
The rebuild happened much faster than anticipated. Will Quebec reward the kids with reinforcements?
Rouen is looking to add depth scoring and defense. This club doesn’t need to do much
The race for 1st the US division could come down to what Seattle does at the deadline. Will they roll with what they have?
Having found more consistency, SHI will continue to look for upgrades. Having addressed their def, depth scoring will become the focus
One of the best teams for most of the season, they have faltered a bit recently. Can’t imagine GM Jagr will panic and most likely only be looking for minor upgrades.
Looking to upgrade anywhere as the full rebuild continues. Most likely their moves will come in the offseason as they address the growth from within
SITTING PRETTY
Unlikely the best team for the entirety of the season makes any moves. But injuries happen and depth is always good to have. But expect them to sit tight and enjoy the view from above
A pretty good lead on the on another Division win, Kouvola doesn’t have much to address. Depth wins in the playoffs though, and it’s easy to see them add something minor.
Vancouver started slowly, and surely alarm bells were ringing. That appears to have been muted for the time being as they look for yet another Division win and dare we say 3 Cups in row? The panic begins anew this offseason as the impossible task of re-signing every star becomes realized
