Reporting from Team Sweden camp in Stockholm
Sweden’s final cuts were made today
C/RW Jonathan Lekkerimäki SNP 68 (18) Aachen der Adlers GM
Bit of an underwhelming tournament last year, Lekkerimaki was beat out by some stronger competition on the W
RW/LW Elmer Soderblom TWF 62 (21)
redmark91
Was considered a bit of a long shot to make the team. His 6’7 frame made him an intriguing option, but ultimately Swedish GM Cranker8989 opted to go in another direction
Top 6 Selections
LW Isak Rosen PLY 77 (19) Atlanta Thrashers GM
RW Oskar Olausson SNP 76 (19) Red Deer Rebels GM
One of the best 2nd lines in last years tourney (almost 30 pts between the 2) take their talents to the Swedish first line. Rosen was the 2nd leading goal scorer, and 2nd (tied with Olausson/Eklund) in OA points. Team Sweden expects big things from both these guys
C Leo Carlsson - PLY - 6’2 185lbs Orebo HK (SHL)
2023 Draft Eligible, Carlsson makes the 1st line as a 17 year old after an impressive camp. Gets a role others would love to have setting up Rosen/Olausson. If Carlsson, or this line falters out the gate, Swedish coach can always turn to Eklund to C this line. Putting together the trio that all tied for 2nd in scoring last year with 14 pts apiece
RD Victor Soderstrom TWD 77 (21) Milwaukee Mighty Drunks GM
Originally given top 6 D role with last season, Soderstrom failed to impress after being rushed to the show. This saw him shipped off at last years deadline to an team looking for prospects. AMS GM macaronibones has taken a patient approach, and it looks to pay dividends with a top pairing role for Soderstrom
RD Elias Salomonsson TWD 77 (18) workman88
A top D in last years event (9pts) Salomonsson will will pair with Soderstrom to form one of the best parings we will see this year. It’s a matter of when, not if he sees the NHL
G Hugo Alnefelt HYB 71 (21) Slovan Stags GM
A late cut last season, and surprise omission from the team, Alnefelt makes his debut as the Sweden starter. After subpar goaltending last season, and Wallstedts graduation, Sweden hopes Alnefelt is what they need to bring home a medal
