After 25 seasons in Nashville, the Nashville Predators organization is celebrating 25 years in Smashville.
As part of the celebrations, Nashville will be relocating to Halifax, as reported by TSN earlier today. The team in Halifax will become the Highlanders, with hometown boys Nathan Mackinnon and Brad Marchand leading the team.
We are also proud to announce that as part of the Opening Night celebrations, local icon Doug Glatt's #69 will be raised to the rafters. When asked for comment, Team President of Hockey Operations and General Manager Luongod had this to say: "There is no NHL team in Halifax without Doug Glatt. His commitment to punching people in the face and taking punches to the face is an inspiration to us all and sets an example of leadership, grit, loyalty, and CTE that all in this organization should look up to. " Although Doug "The Thug" Glatt never played in the NHL, he was a Halifax icon playing for the minor league Highlanders leading them in fights and intangibles. Although not many people know, Doug Glatt was a direct inspiration to another local icon growing up, Sidney Crosby. Crosby had this to say when reached out for comment: "Growing up as a kid in Halifax, I have fond memories of watching Mr. Glatt mercilessly and repeated pummel people in the face. I knew watching then and there, I did not want to do that, so I focused on actually playing hockey".
When asked to comment why the organization decided to retire Glatt's #69 despite never playing in the NHL, GM Luongod replied: "It's #69, it's hilarious!"
