Expansion on the Horizon S4Breaking news! There are rumors of a 27th team joining the NHL through expansion. When reached for comment Bettman had this to say “After an offseason with only 5 relocations, we think the marketplace could be ripe for expansion.” - Bettman We’re hearing his preference is for an Arizona franchise, but other locations could be play too. Press Reporter - Have you given any thought to where this 27th franchise could be located? Bettman - Somewhere in Arizona ideally. It has such a great hockey history. That market seems like a stable bet. Press Reporter - Any other cities in play? Bettman - Freeport, Kansas , Elkins, Arkansas, Akhiok, Alaska. Somewhere we can REALLY grow the game. I bet we could get 50% of the population of Freeport wanting to catch some NHL action. Maybe Pyongyang. A lot of great options Press Reporter - ….. ok If Bettman is able to pull this off, we could see some interesting story lines unfold over the season. What will teams protection lists look like? The Halifax Highlanders released a statement from GM Luongod in regards to the Evander Kane accusations:
"This is a disturbing allegation that we as an organization take seriously. We intend to cooperate with the league and police investigation into the matter. However, to be fair to Evander, he had 27 goals last year."
